Welcome To My Money Map
Let me guess—you’ve got a lot on your plate, and figuring out your finances isn’t exactly your favorite way to spend a Sunday. I get it. For a long time, managing money felt like one long list of things I should be doing—but never quite got to. Budgets I couldn’t stick to. Savings goals that got pushed to “next month.” And investing? That felt like a world built for someone else entirely.
Mike’s Money Map started because I wanted something I couldn’t find back then: clear, encouraging guidance that actually respected where I was starting from. No guilt trips. No jargon. Just practical, honest advice from someone who’s been through it—and figured out a way forward.
My Story
I’ve made the money mistakes. Spent more than I earned. Saved too little, too late. Trusted the wrong advice. But over time, I built systems that actually worked for me—simple, flexible strategies that made room for real life (unexpected expenses, impulse Target runs, last-minute pizza nights and all).
And once I saw how much easier money became when I stopped trying to “get it perfect” and started building momentum instead, I couldn’t keep it to myself.
This space is about making personal finance personal. You’ll never find one-size-fits-all answers here. What you will find is support, strategy, and small, doable steps that lead to bigger change.
Because managing your money isn’t just about numbers—it’s about freedom. Options. Peace of mind. That’s what I want for you.
Map Your Way to Financial Confidence
Good money decisions start with direction, not restriction. We cover the everyday choices that shape your finances now and the longer-term moves that give them somewhere meaningful to go.
The Money Map
Money isn’t one giant thing—it’s lots of small decisions that add up over time. That’s why I break things down into focused, real-life areas to help you dig in where you need it most.
Wealth Building
This isn’t about being flashy—it’s about building something solid. I share smart, simple ways to grow your money over time, whether you're new to investing or ready to get more intentional with where your dollars go. Think of this as your calm, practical guide to building financial security that lasts.
Smart Budgeting
Forget rigid rules and color-coded spreadsheets. Budgeting should be something you can stick to—not something you dread. I’ll show you how to build a system that fits your habits, helps you stay consistent, and still leaves room for fun. You won’t find “just stop buying coffee” advice here.
Frugal Living
This isn’t about cutting everything you love—it’s about spending better, not just less. From everyday ways to stretch your dollars to mindset shifts that make saving feel satisfying (not stressful), this section is all about living well without overspending. You can be intentional and enjoy your life.
Everything I share ties back to this core idea: money should work for you—not the other way around.
You Don’t Need to Be Perfect—You Just Need a Map
Most people don’t get handed a guide for this stuff. We’re left to figure it out while juggling bills, families, work, and expectations. I know how heavy that can feel.
So here’s the truth: you don’t need to master every financial concept overnight. You just need a starting point—and someone in your corner who knows it’s okay to take it one step at a time.
That’s what I’m here for. To help you feel more in control, less overwhelmed, and more hopeful about what’s next.
The People Mapping Smarter Money Decisions
Mike Davis
Money Strategist
Hi! I'm a former over-drafter turned money strategist who learned the hard way that financial peace doesn’t come from perfection, it comes from progress. I’ve spent the last decade turning trial-and-error into real-world tools that help everyday people feel more confident with their money. I’m not here to sell you a dream—I’m here to show you what works, with honesty, clarity, and a little encouragement along the way.
Monica Matthews
Senior Money Editor
Monica has spent much of her career writing about the financial decisions that quietly shape everyday life: negotiating pay, choosing the right bank account, managing rising household costs, and figuring out when a “good deal” really isn’t one. Her work has covered personal finance, consumer behavior, workplace money, and the small financial habits that tend to matter more than people expect.
James Morrell
Wealth Planning Writer
James has a low tolerance for investment hype and a high tolerance for boring things that actually work. He writes about markets, retirement, portfolio building, and long-term wealth with a particular interest in what deserves attention—and what is mostly noise. At Mike’s Money Map, Ben keeps the focus on patience, risk, time, and the decisions that tend to matter long after the headline disappears.
Philippa Beacham
Consumer Finance Writer
Philippa is convinced being frugal has very little to do with being cheap. To her, it's about spending with intention, skipping purchases that don't add much value, and making room for the ones that genuinely do. She covers grocery spending, household expenses, shopping habits, subscriptions, travel, and everyday lifestyle costs. If there's a smarter way to stretch a dollar without making life feel smaller, chances are Philippa has already researched it.
